The mental shift that helped me care about personal finance – By Cosistent_Scholar73

My whole life, I always was a collector. Furthermore, I never cared at all about personal finance or investing. From Warhammer to MTG Cards to streetwear, I always would spend all of my excess income on collecting things that I liked. About 6 years ago, in my early 20s, I realized that I was spending thousands of dollars a year on things that I would lose interest in after a few years.

Now I view the purchase and holding of ETFs and shares of companies that I like as “collecting” them. This mental shift has allowed me stay motivated to grow my investing portfolio. I’m still a collector, but now I prioritize the collection of shares. This also has helped me to avoid panicking too much when the market drops as I care less about the cash value of the shares that I like, and more about building a big collection of them.

Can anyone please have suggestions for my personal finance? – Asked by AnnualEntreprenure56

The question above was asked on Reddit by AnnualEntreprenure56 … He further elaboratd on the question as thus

“Earnings: 3L/month (after taxes) Loans EMI: 50K Monthly expenses: 70K (Living abroad) Shopping: 15K

Current Debt Home loan: 14L Student loan: 12L My wedding expenses will come after 3 year: 20L

I assume my salary will increase 10% annually. I need suggestions that how can I clear my debt while investing in best possible way.

Current investment: 5K/month on Axis small cap fund”

From the question asked, here are some answers from scholars that has already take the bold step into their financial journey.

Your investment is very low as compared to your salary. You should be investing approx 1/3 of your salary in MF or equities based on your comfort level. Again this is not a hard and fast rule, you need to calculate how much you can save. Increase your savings as your salary increases.

Right now what do you do with surplus money you have? 50+15+70=135K and you ear ln 300K.

Do you have emergency fund built? If not you can start building it. (marshaler)

You are using all of the monthly surplus of ₹1.65L to pre-pay the loans? In that case it would still take another 10-12 months to clear off these loans before you can start saving towards your wedding expenses or other goals. (beginfinancial)

You should invest at least 50K in nifty 50, nifty next 50 or vanguard or eurostoxx if that’s available.

Don’t assume that salary will increase 10% annually especially in this economy. (brunette_mh)
